Northern Soul: Long After Tonight

Saturday 3 May 2008, 19.00–23.00

SOLD OUT
Part of Twentieth Birthday Celebrations

Tate Liverpool holds its very own Northern Soul Dance with a rich line up of well known Northern Soul DJs including Paul Smith (resident at Uptight, Le Bateau, Liverpool), Phil Saxe (one of the original Twisted Wheel DJs and former manager of the Happy Mondays), Paul ‘Junior’ Walker (recently spotted in the ‘Duffy’ music video) and Liverpool’s renowned DJ Christian McBride, culminating in a performance by The Loves of record label Fortunapop "More Soul than Wigan Casino" fame.

The Loves have been described as the Monkees playing the Velvet Underground, have featured on the John Peel Radio sessions on many occasions and their second LP, Kaleidoscope was recently rated the Times' Album of the Week.

While revellers revisit the Northern Soul dance halls of the 1970s, 'Long After Tonight', a Beck's Futures award winning film by artist Matt Stokes of a Northern Soul reunion, plays in the background. In the film, dancers move and shake to Northern Soul tracks 'The World Again' and 'Sidras Theme'. Dressed in associated fashions of the 1970s, they engage in proto break dancing, skipping and gliding across the polished parquet floor.

The night continues with an after party at Gold in the Shade at The Magnet, Hardman Street with Gerald Jazzman, J-Rawls (Lone Catalysts) and Magnet Residents until 5am.
