Susan Hiller’s exhibition at Tate Liverpool in 1996 spanned work from the early 1970s to 1996 and included important examples of her explorations into automatic writing and the unconscious.

For this talk celebrating Tate Liverpool’s 20th Birthday Party – Hiller is joined by current Director of Tate Liverpool, Dr Christoph Grunenberg, in an illustrated discussion traversing Hiller’s investigations into the hidden meanings of everyday objects, the intrigue the artist finds in the unspoken and the unrecorded and how her work reflects the gaps and the overlaps between time and space, dreams and experience.

An American living in London since 1973, Hiller works in a variety of media (video, painting, sculpture, sound and moving image installation) to produce art of great emotional depth and cultural insight.
