Ken Russell’s Pop Goes the Easel (1962)
Presented by David Gryn and Artprojx
One of the first film documentaries to focus on younger, less established artists. Russell’s free-wheeling film showcases four of the key figures of British Pop, Peter Blake, Derek Boshier, Pauline Boty and Peter Phillips just as they were attracting critical acclaim and media attention. The film’s playful style locates the work in the popular culture of the day.
