Research Forum: The Art of Protest: Art, Activism and Oppositionality
Using this year’s Turner Prize shortlist as a starting point, this postgraduate research forum deals with issues surrounding “political” artwork. Questions to be broached include whether the crisis of political engagement leaves a vacuum that people turn to art to fill, how and why political controversies migrate into the art world and whether art can be an instrument for social change.
