Artist Talks: Imaging Liverpool
Vanley Burke
Vanley Burke discusses his black and white photographs of Liverpool city centre and outskirts taken in the 1980s. Born in Jamaica in 1951, Burke moved to Birmingham in 1965 and started photographing daily life in the community around him with a camera given to him by his grandmother for his tenth birthday. For over 30 years, Burke has single-mindedly followed his self appointed task to document the life of the black community in Britain, and continues this type of work today.
