Posters
Since 1996
Political events of 1996, such as the reintroduction
of nuclear testing by France and the ongoing discussion regarding
Berlin as Germany’s new capital city, led Ruff to develop
his Posters series. Inspired by the work of John Heartfield,
a German painter and photographer who created highly satirical photomontages
during the inter-war years, Ruff began to create quasi-political
posters from existing materials. He consciously imitated the graphic
and collage style of Russian propaganda posters of the 1920s and
1930s but used digital technology to generate and produce his images.
