The resources available in this section provide curriculum links and suggested activities using the contextual resources available on this site as starting points. The section provides a range of discursive and practical tasks that can be used with your pupils to aid the interpretation and understanding of the artworks and to extend the National Curriculum.

Art & Design: Pattern and Abstraction

  • Choose an object from nature and simplify it into an ABSTRACT shape.
  • Repeat the shape to create a pattern design for textiles.
  • Draw a picture of a household object and cover it with your design. This could just be in a picture or you could make real prototypes by printing directly onto objects (e.g. a vase) or fabric.
