Getting Here

Map of Tate Britain location enlarge

A comprehensive map of the city centre can be found on the following Visit Liverpool website. Please be aware that, due to our location on the waterfront, the weather can be inclement particularly with high winds.

On Foot

Approaching from the Strand, turn onto the Salthouse Dock opposite the Hilton Hotel. Continue straight on passing the Pumphouse Inn on the right and the Maritime Museum on the left.

The Albert Dock complex includes period features such as cobbles and original York stone paving. The quickest route is across the Hartley Bridge. This bridge can sometimes be closed to pedestrian access with very little notice to allow larger boats into the Albert Dock. Such closures are generally short. When open, two "fins" approximately 30cm high run the length of the bridge parallel to the direction or travel.

By Bicycle

Bicycle racks are located in Mermaid Courtyard, adjacent to Tate Liverpool. For information about cycling in Merseyside call 0151 330 1290 or visit the Travelwise website.

By Train

The nearest mainline train station is Liverpool Lime Street. Main line rail tickets are valid for travel from Lime Street Station to James Street Station which is the nearest local station to Tate Liverpool (720m).

By Bus

Liverpool ONE Bus Station is directly opposite the Albert Dock, 365m away from Tate Liverpool. The C4 bus stops at the Albert Dock. Also, many buses stop here or at other stops nearby the gallery such as The Strand, James Street and Castle Street.

For more information and help to plan your journey by public transport, call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 or visit the Merseytravel website.

By Ferry

Mersey Ferries from Seacombe and Woodside on the Wirral call at the Pier Head which is within walking distance from the gallery. Due to building work, access from the Pier Head to the gallery is currently via the Strand.

By Car

Follow brown signs to the Albert Dock. There is a multi-storey car park at Kings Dock (5 minutes walk).

Q-Park Strand Street with 2000 underground spaces can be accessed from the centre of Strand Street which runs past the Albert Dock (5 minutes walk). Liverpool Shopmobility is located on Level 3 (ground floor) of Liverpool ONE, adjacent to the disabled car parking bays within Strand Street Q-Park. Visit the Liverpool One website and call 0151 707 0877.

There are designated accessible parking spaces around the Albert Dock complex (3.3m wide with rear access to parked vehicles). A site map can be found at the Albert Dock website. There are charges for parking. There are speed bumps along the main access roads. It is approximately 120m from the nearest accessible parking space to the gallery.

A convenient drop off point is available by arrangement at Hartley Bridge. Another area is at the side of the gallery via the back service road. However, these are not parking areas.

By Coach

Parking is available on Kings Dock.

By Air

Fly to Liverpool John Lennon airport from a number of European destinations. There is a regular bus service (Arriva no. 500) from the airport to the city centre, alternatively take a 20-minute taxi journey to the gallery.
