Eileen Agar, Angel of Anarchy

Eileen Agar (1899–1991)
Angel of Anarchy
1936–40

Presented by the Friends of the Tate Gallery 1983

Eileen Agar took part in the famous International Surrealist Exhibition of 1936. Angel of Anarchy is regarded as one of the finest Surrealist objects by a British artist. The title refers to the paradox that critic Herbert Read was peace loving yet prepared to fight for political freedom.
