Eric Shanes, author of a bestselling
book on Brancusi and an internationally-renowned lecturer, will
give a detailed slide talk about Brancusi’s life and artistic
development before leading a visit of the Tate Modern exhibition.
He will explore why Brancusi is widely considered to be one of the
most innovative and influential artists of the twentieth century,
making sculptures arguably as important as Picasso’s paintings
to the development of modern art. Focusing on the artist’s
careful and sensitive choice of materials, themes and series, Shanes
will set each of his key works within the context of his artistic
aims, as well as Romanian folk traditions and other stylistic influences.
