Under Scan by electronic artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is a large-scale public art project involving hundreds of video-portraits projected onto the ground in Trafalgar Square.
Members of the public are invited to participate in the work and contribute their video portrait by visiting Tate Modern for a preliminary event running from 19 to 21 September. The portraits are shot from above as members of the public lie beneath a suspended camera. Each individual is free to represent themselves as they wish. A limited edition Under Scan print featuring all the people filmed is provided to each participant as a gift.
Full information on the Video Portraits, the Under Scan project and related events across London is on Tate’s Intermedia Art website. The Under Scan installation on Trafalgar Square will run from 14 to 23 November 2008.
To reserve a free portrait slot please book online. Please not participants must be aged 16 or over. Participants aged 16 or 17 must have a form signed by their guardian, which will be available on the day of filming.
