Saturday 17 March 2007, 10.30–13.30

Gilbert & George state that their art and life are one and the same. By looking at the practice and performance of artists’ diaries, this workshop opens up questions about the relationship between personal and public history, distribution, recognition and voyeurism. Artists whose work is discussed include Bill Brandt, Charlotte Salomon, Frida Kahlo, Nan Goldin, Sophie Calle, Jo Spence, Chantal Ackerman, Corinne Day and Tracey Emin

Between sessions participants are invited to work on a small project in response to the ideas raised and this provides a basis for further discussion when the group reconvenes.
