Dream Worlds
Surrealism and Film
Led by Maxa Zoller
Mondays 4 June 2007 – 9 July 2007, 18.30–20.00
(no session Monday 18 June 2007)
The surrealists believed film had the potential to be a ‘waking dream’ with the power to envelop its audience and unleash their imaginations. This five-session course explores the surreal in cinema from the avant-garde to its flirtation with Hollywood, and to everyday advertising. Inspired by Dalí & Film, it examines surrealist film history and methods, including animation and montage, set design, and digital technology. Participants also make their own surrealist film, poster or script.
