This one-day course examines a range of aspects of Frida Kahlo’s work and personality, from her acclaimed autobiographical paintings to her collection of Pre-Columbian and Mexican art. The day begins with an introduction to the Frida Kahlo exhibition and a light Mexican lunch. This is followed by sessions on pain and self-portraiture, Mexican Modernism and Kahlo’s symbolic still lifes. There is also a session on Kahlo’s love of dressing up in traditional Mexican costume, and its relationship to her political identity as a communist and member of the revolutionary movement.
