Artist and composer Marina Rosenfeld provides an extraordinary opportunity for thirty female improvisers to participate in a performance in the Turbine Hall. Emotional Orchestra uses performers as expressive vehicles for music-making. The composition is structured into a set of emotional variations, explored via changes in bowing intensity, speed, volume and timbre. Over the course of two days Rosenfeld will teach participants simple bowing strategies on their instruments. Participants can be non-musicians, amateurs or professional players using any instruments that can be bowed: violas, cellos, electric guitars, harps and so on. No musical experience is necessary, the only requirement is a willingness to explore a new approach to performance. The orchestra will perform in the Turbine Hall on the evening of 23 September.
