Thursday 3 December 2009, 18.30

An eclectic selection of films commissioned and produced by Animate Projects over the past year. For AnimateTV, we present new works by four outstanding British filmmakers - Cordelia Swann, Sarah Wood, Thomas Hicks and Petra Freeman - that explore the world through animation, using a variety of techniques to create alternate realities.

We also present Coastcards: three short films by artists Andrew Kötting, Susan Collins and Kayla Parker & Stuart Moore, all made in response to the seaside, commissioned as part of the Sea Change initiative. The programme concludes with Thai artist and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul's award-winning film A Letter To Uncle Boonmee, one element of Weerasethkul's acclaimed multi-platform Primitive project.

Programme:

Andrew Kötting, Edgeland Mutter
Hastings as a place where both memories and people are pulled towards the sea in a strange state of 'reverse evolution'.

Susan Collins, Love Brid
A loving tribute to the timeless charms of the seaside, and a colourful rollercoaster ride through the coastal town of Bridlington, North Yorkshire.

Kayla Parker and Stuart Moore, Teign Spirit
A twenty first century stroll along Teignmouth's Back Beach, evoking the optical entertainments of the Victorian pier.

Cordelia Swann, Amnesia
Amnesia opens with the heroine waking up in a beach house in Malibu to find that her husband is Pierce Brosnan.

Sarah Wood, For Cultural Purposes Only
An experimental film essay investigating the cultural importance of cinema.

Thomas Hicks, Unicycle Film
Two unicyclists carry out a strange performance: their movements at times mirror each other, at times work together, like one machine.

Petra Freeman, Tad's Nest
Childhood memories of a secret place are the starting point for a story that evokes the innocent and the sinister.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul, A Letter to Uncle Boonmee
A personal letter describing Weerasethakul's Nabua to Uncle Boonmee. As a slowly moving camera glides through the deserted houses, the voices of young men are heard.
