The Servant
Joseph Losey, UK 1963, 112 min
An idle aristocrat (James Fox) hires a manservant (Dirk Bogarde) who insidiously takes control of his life. In subverting the traditional master-servant roles, the film mirrors the decline of the English class system. The Servant, a collaboration between Losey and Harold Pinter, also caused contoversy at the time because of its homosexual subtext.
