Family Life
Ken Loach

Saturday 21 April 2007, 19.00

Ken Loach, UK 1971, 108 min

Inspired by RD Laing’s theories about mental illness, Family Life documents a fragile girl’s nervous breakdown. Let down by both her family and the doctors supposed to be treating her, she eventually loses her sense of self. By portraying his lead character as an innocent victim, Loach launches an assault on both the family unit and the NHS.
