The Red Shoes

Friday 15 June 2007, 19.00

Powell and Pressburger’s gorgeous Technicolor re-imagining of Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairytale is renowned for its hyper-sensual visuals inspired by Dalí. Featuring a dazzling 15-minute ballet sequence, the film is regarded as a major work of postwar British cinema and has influenced such filmmakers as Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma. Considered the definitive ballet film, The Red Shoes stars Moira Shearer as an ambitious young ballerina who must choose between her career and her love for a talented young composer played by Marius Goring.
