Victor Sjöström plays aged Professor Borg, who re-lives his life while travelling by car with his daughter-in-law to receive an honorary doctorate. Various encounters on the way inspire reminiscences and insights, making Borg increasingly aware of his failings and shortcomings. Travel as a time for self-reflection is powerfully realised as the action shifts between past and present, dream and reality.
The bfi & Tate: Kings of the Road film series is programmed to reflect themes of the Robert Frank: Storylines exhibition.
