Constructivism is the artistic movement that defines the Russian Revolution and this programme celebrates the composers associated with it. Dmitrii Shostakovich, Nikolai Roslavets, Arthur Lourie and others gave musical expression to many of the themes Rodchenko and Popova grappled with in their paintings.

Constructivism embraced all aspects of the avant-garde, including painters, playwrights, architects, poets and film directors and at its heart was an ambition to find new forms to express the new reality of Communist society. The recitals will take place inside the exhibition, enabling visitors to experience in person the dynamism and explosiveness of the innovations.

This event is curated by Ben Borthwick, Assistant Curator, Tate Modern and is made possible with the support of Pushkin House, London and the State Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki
