This unique event brings together two seminal figures, both of whom enjoy cult status on the international contemporary art, performance and music scenes.

Kim Gordon and Jutta Koether regularly collaborate on installations and performance projects. Apart from being a founding member, bass player, vocalist and guitarist in the legendary alternative rock group Sonic Youth, Gordon has worked on numerous creative projects across many genres. Koether is a noted painter, writer, rock and art critic, musician and performance artist, and her projects often interlace all of these assumed roles.

This screening, performance and discussion forms part of the ongoing project,  Her Noise, for which Gordon has been commissioned to create a large-scale installation and performance programme, opening at  South London Gallery 10 November 2005.

Kim Gordon’s recent installation work has been widely exhibited across the US and Europe, including solo exhibitions at New York's Reena Spaulings Fine Art (2004), Participant Inc. Gallery, Gothenburg Biennale 2003, Gothenburg Kunsthalle and Club In The Shadow, in collaboration with Jutta Koether, at Kenny Schachter ConTEMPorary NYC. Gordon’s other projects have included the band Free Kitten with Julie Crafriz (Pussy Galore), Yoshimi (Boredoms), as well as regular collaborations with Jim O’Rourke, Ikue Mori, DJ Olive, and her husband Thurston Moore. She co-runs a clothing label, X Girl, and maintains ongoing creative relationships with artists including Dan Graham, Raymond Pettibon, Mike Kelley, Richard Prince, Tony Oursler and others.

Jutta Koether has exhibited widely at a range of international galleries including Galerie Daniel Buchloz (Cologne), Reena Spaulings Fine Art (New York), Thomas Erben Gallery (New York), Apex-Art (New York), White Columns (New York), Kunstlerhaus Vienna, ICA Philadelphia, The Swiss Institute (New York) and others. Koether also regularly contributes to publications such as Artforum and Afterall and used to edit German culture and music publication Spex.
