Following the international success of Paris, Texas,
German director Wim Wenders was commissioned by the Centre Georges Pompidou
to make a film ‘in the context of fashion’. Initially sceptical,
Wenders overcame his misgivings to fly to Tokyo and Paris on the trail
of design guru Yohji Yamamoto. The result, visually engaging and consistently
intriguing, explores the similarities between film-making and clothes-designing
and the extent to which fashion and film can be artist-led rather than
governed by the dictates of the market.
