Perhaps the most successful British photographer of his generation,
Martin Parr creates startling images that offer witty,
unblinking insights into the social fabric of contemporary Britain.
His series from the 1980s, such as The Last Resort and The
Cost of Living, brought a vivid political awareness to depictions
of the domestic and everyday. More recent projects include Common
Sense (1999) and Cherry Blossom (2000). His work has
been exhibited in many major art galleries worldwide, including MoMA
New York, the Barbican Art Gallery, and now as part of Tate Modern’s
show Cruel and Tender.
