Who (or What) is Raw Canvas?
Whether or not you like art, if you are between 15 and 23,
Raw Canvas is for you.
Raw Canvas is a youth initiative that offers another perspective
on modern and contemporary art. Participants are invited to
draw on their personal experience and knowledge when thinking
about and interpreting works of art.
"Raw Canvas offers talks, discussions, visits, parties
and events, all planned and run by 15-23 yr olds, for 15-23
yr olds, and all without the exchange of money!
That's for us, by us - just the way it should be."
Andres, Raw Canvas Member, 17
Open forums are encouraged between young people who
may or may not be interested, or exposed to modern art. Activities
include weekend and evening events, workshops, and holiday
short courses run by artists, designers and cultural critics.
All this as well as being peer-led!

Erm, sounds a bit like an 'art club'...
Well, we prefer to call ourselves Raw Canvas, and our slogan
is that Your Opinion Goes Here. Never mind what your teacher,
the art critics, the books and the newspapers say. We want
to know what you really think and if you've really taken the
time to consider, that maybe... just possibly... there could
be a different perspective.
AIMS
Through a variety of free workshops and art-related events,
the programme seeks to
- Bridge the gap between the school trip and the independent
visit to art galleries.
- Enable young people to understand all this art malarkey
by giving them the opportunity to have a voice and make
their own conclusions about Modern Art.
- Establish a young, confident and informed art-gallery
audience.
You don’t need to be studying to take part all you
just need to turn up. But, if you feel like your GCSE, A-level,
or BA in Art could use some fresh ideas, then Raw Canvas is
ideal for you too.
