Abstraction across Media
Albers and Moholy-Nagy

Friday 2 June 2006, 11.00–16.00

This year sees three major exhibitions at Tate Modern that explore abstraction: Albers and Moholy-Nagy: From the Bauhaus to the New World, Kandinsky: The Path to Abstraction 1908–1922 and David Smith: A Centennial. This is the first of three events that explore the history and concept of abstraction. The talks are intended to challenge established ways of discussing abstract art and consider how new perspectives – derived from socio-historic, semiotic and interdisciplinary ways of thinking – can help develop our approach to abstraction.

This event focuses on the innovations of Josef Albers and László Moholy-Nagy and brings together art historian Michael White, curator Achim Borchardt-Hume, photographer and historian David Campany and artist Dan Sturgis.
