Fiona Tan  is celebrated for her film and video installations which explore the nature of archives and the truth claims of ethnography, and which also reflect on the nature of place and time. Her recent piece, Saint Sebastian is a thoughtful study of the dress and actions of young women archers that concentrates anticipation into the moment that the girls release their arrows, a shot that symbolically marks their transition into womanhood. Rain shows a non-descript Indonesian street corner during a monsoon.  She has shown at major venues worldwide including recently at Documenta 11 and last year’s Istanbul Biennale. This talk coincides with the Time Zones exhibition.
