Poetry Reading in Frida Kahlo
Prize-winning poet Pascale Petit walks visitors through the Frida Kahlo exhibition, reading from her latest collection, The Wounded Deer. The poems in this collection are all written in Kahlo's voice and their vivid imagery relates closely to her troubled life. Kahlo took up painting after being severely injured in a bus crash. Her life was changed forever by the accident and the portrayal of her body, wracked with pain, is a recurring theme in her paintings and in Petit’s poems:
Whenever we make love, you say,
it’s like making love to a crash –
I bring the bus with me into the bedroom.
Pascale Petit has published three full-length collections and was selected as a Next Generation Poet in 2004.
