Friday 9 May & Saturday 10 May
11.00–18.30
user_mode = emotion + intuition in art + design

RemoteHome
RemoteHome: the first remotely shared apartment, a project by Tobi Schneidler,
Interactive Institute.
One of the works being shown at user_mode.
user_mode is an international, multidisciplinary symposium looking at interactive art and design practices. It examines how creative practitioners engage the emotions of the audience/user. What is meant by emotional engagement? Is it immersion, rapture, agency, reflection? How do you engage and sustain the interest of the user/visitor/player in an interactive experience? user_mode features internationally renowned artists, designers, theorists, musicians, and researchers, exploring areas such as reflexive architecture, interactive film, art installation, responsive environments, computer games, performance, wearable technology, communication and experience design.

It includes: Sara Diamond (Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada), David Ross (former Director of SFMOMA, USA), Stuart Jones (composer and sound artist, UK), Lev Manovich (new media theorist, USA) and Tobi Schneidler (Interactive Institute, Sweden).

Due to unforseen circumstances, the artist Gary Hill is not able to be present for user_mode.  He sends his sincere apologies. The first presentation of the symposium on Friday 9 May, will now be undertaken by Simon Biggs.

A music performance user_mode = emotion + interaction in electronic performance complements the event on Saturday evening.

A collaboration with Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design
