Did anyone notice the spectacularly unusual sunset on the 8th October? I did, enough to make a note of it on my calendar ('Best sunset ever'). I was on my usual home commute, the 18.00 out of Waterloo when I began to notice it as the train pulled out past the London Eye. A blood-red sun was going down in a dark purple - yes it really was purple - sky, and all the boring glass-fronted office buildings were lit in brilliant gold.
This all sounds really poetic, but as I watched, the people in the carriage were actually so distracted from their newspapers that within a few minutes everyone was staring out the window or craning their necks to witness this amazing sight. When we got to Battersea Power Station it was even better than the Pink Floyd album cover!
