Weather stories The twister sucked up roof tiles, fences, trees and even a shed in a 15-second orgy of destruction.

29 April 2001, Horsham, West Sussex

A report in the Sussex Times describes a tornado in Horsham. ‘The twister sucked up roof tiles, fences, trees and even a shed in a 15-second orgy of destruction.’ The tornado struck Macleod Road and Hornbeam Close at 0700 GMT … Ms Anne Foreman of Hornbeam Close, was lifted off her feet. She saw a neighbour’s shed lift off the ground. Ms Jean McIntyre of Macleod Road said: ‘My exercise bike was thrown across the garden; [the tornado] took part of the roof off and all the fencing. It took the cover off the trailer and a big tabletop football game flew past my greenhouse.’
