Bruce Nauman was born in Indiana, USA in 1941. After studying mathematics at university he had his first solo exhibition in 1966. Since the 1970s he has exhibited internationally, including Bruce Nauman, a major retrospective in 1995, and Bruce Nauman: Image/Text 1966-96, which travelled to the Hayward Gallery, London.

His large-scale video installation MAPPING THE STUDIO II with color shift, flip, flop & flip/flop (Fat Chance John Cage) 2001 has recently been acquired by Tate and is on display in the Level 5 galleries.

He lives and works in New Mexico.
