Noonan’s work is an amalgamation of fiction,
myth and fact. The large-scale screen prints
shown here incorporate figures and imagery
from the history of theatre and costume
design. The characters he selects often have
a haunting aura, which is emphasised by
the subdued visual effect of his collage and
printing technique. In Untitled a mysterious
selection of figures is placed against a
woodland background that may evoke sinister
connotations. At the same time the characters
are redolent of a particular moment in British
theatrical history, as if playing out some
classical drama from the 1970s.
