In the 1970s, the Artist Placement Group (APG) set the stage for artists to produce radical political and social interventions in the UK and abroad. To celebrate the acquisition of the APG's records by Tate Archive, artists, government and the private sector are invited to explore its legacy. The event examines the ways artists have engaged with and socially transformed institutional structures, and formally challenges the government to address the role and relevance of the artist 'as incidental person'.

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell MP, historian Nicholas Tresilian, artists Barbara Steveni, John Latham, Ian Breakwell, Stuart Brisley and David Hall have been invited, along with current practitioners, Kathrin Böhm, Andreas Lang, Platform and Barnaby Drabble.
