Artist Talk: Mark Wallinger
Date: 15 March 2007
Venue: Tate Britain
Mark Wallinger is a contemporary Renaissance artist. Not only does he make work that asks big questions exploring the traditions and values of British society, its class system, institutionalised spirituality and religion, human rights, individual responsibility, state intervention and most recently political and cultural censorship, but he also works under various guises. Painter, sculptor, writer, video artist, Wallinger finds the right medium to create work that probes social consciousness. And as he puts it, creates work where there is 'an authentic absorption and personal investment as well as a real critical distance'. In a unique event, Wallinger talks about his processes, methodologies and artworks.
