Tate Tools Modules Download Instructions
The Tate Tools modules can be downloaded to your computer using easily available software. The modules are large files because they contain video clips and high quality images from the Tate collections so can take a while to download, particularly if you do not have a broadband connection. The modules consist of zipped PowerPoint slides with accompanying related video clips, images and Flash files.
Step One – Preparation
- Each module is packaged in a zip file so you will need Winzip or a similar tool loaded onto your computer in order to unpack the file
- The resources are produced in PowerPoint so make sure you have Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer. You will need to have Windows Media Player installed to view the video within the modules. The modules also contain animations developed in Flash. You can download Flash for free.
- Make sure your computer is set up for showing video and playing sound. If in doubt contact your IT co-ordinator
- Using ‘My Computer’ create a folder on your hard drive called Tate Tools. This is the location to which you will download, extract, and store the module in the form of a Zip file.
Step Two – Download the Zip file to your computer
- When you are ready, click on one of the Module links at the bottom of these notes. Then follow the on-screen instructions. IMPORTANT – when asked if you want to save this file to disk click yes
- The download may take some time, depending on the speed of your connection. You may be asked to locate the position of your Tate Tools folder.
- When the download is complete you should open your Tate Tools folder where you will find a Winzip file with the name of the Module.
Step Three – Extract the module from the Zip file
- Find the Zip file named after the Module in the Tate Tools folder
- Double click the file and follow the on screen instructions.
- If asked for the location to extract the files to, find your Tate Tools folder
- It is important to extract all the files
Step Four – View and use the presentation
- Click on the PowerPoint file to open it. It will open in edit mode
- To show the slides use the Slide Show view
- To print out the speakers notes select print and then speakers notes
- To run the video clips in some of the slides you must use a single click of your mouse to start it, and another single click to stop it
You can then repeat this process for the Investigation Sheets. This file is much smaller and will not take so long to download.
