Whether for a speedy pencil sketch or a highly finished watercolour, the paper Turner used is an integral part of the work.

This paper is a replica of one of the dark brown papers produced between 1810 and 1835 to Turner's close specification, reproduced as faithfully as possible by Ruscombe Paper Mill and containing long-fibred cotton and refined linen pulp.

The paper needs to be soaked in cold water and then dried naturally for 24 hours before it provides a tough, durable and beautifully textured working sheet.
