Activities for Visiting Groups
All sessions are for a maximum of 20 participants per group. If you are bringing more than 20 students, arrangements can be made to run simultaneous activities at both sites. There are a scale of charges for all activities at Tate St Ives. Available on request
Orientation – 30 minutes
This option is available only to tertiary, community and adult groups and is aimed at placing the gallery and its displays in context.
The talk will include:
- An overview of current displays and display schedules
- A brief outline of the Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden
- An introduction to the idea of TSI as a purpose-built gallery
- The St Ives School and why there is a Tate in Cornwall.
This option is NOT available at BHM.
General Tour – 60 minutes
This option is open to all groups. The guide will deliver an introduction to the current displays and will incorporate examples from each of the individual displays including the St Ives Artists. This option is available at both sites.
Focused Tour – 90 minutes
This option is open to all groups but more appropriate for A level groups and above. The group can select a focus in discussion with Education Staff – for example focusing on one particular exhibition or a specific theme. These talks do not have to take place exclusively within the focused display space but moreover would use that as a focal point. This option is available at both sites.
Sketchbook Tour – 90 minutes
This option is for a structured tour with the provision of a sketchbook and pencil for students to use in a guided manner during the talk. Artist/educators delivering this option will include time within the talk to lead simple sketchbook activities. This option is available at both sites.
Artist-led Activities – 120 minutes
This option is for a two-hour session in front of the original artworks working with an artist to explore the displays through looking, talking and practical work. The practical work will be dry and simple with the idea that participants can return to their school/college/group and continue developing. This option is available at both sites.
