American Patrons of Tate is an independent charity based in New York that supports the work of Tate in the United Kingdom. It receives full tax exempt status from the IRS under section 501(c) (3) allowing United States taxpayers to receive tax deductions on gifts.

It welcomes gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations who wish to contribute towards the success of Europe's leading art institution. Charitable contributions can be designated for the following key programs:

  • Exhibitions
    Supporting Tate's exhibition program of leading American artists and schools, many of which travel to partner museums in the United States.

  • Scholarship
    Supporting curatorial, catalogue and conservation research.

  • Capital and Endowment
    Supporting future phases of capital development at Tate Modern and Tate Britain and increasing the endowment of the American Fund for the Tate Gallery which helps acquire work by North and South American artists for presentation to Tate.

Membership Contributions

Support may be made on an annual basis, to one of three membership schemes:

  • Patron ($1,000)
    Supporting American scholarship at Tate

  • Exhibition Patrons ($5,000)
    Supporting American exhibitions at Tate

  • American Acquisitions Committee ($10,000)
    Supporting the acquisition of contemporary American art

  • Latin American Acquisitions Committee ($15,000)
    Supporting the acquisition of contemporary Latin American art

Works of Art

Support is welcomed from collectors who wish to strengthen Tate's collection by making outright or fractional gifts in works of art. Please contact us, in the first instance, to allow us to confirm that Tate is able to accept your gift.

Planned Giving Opportunities

Please contact us if you require further information on bequests, life income plans (in exchange for cash, marketable securities or other assets - including works of art), or making a gift by credit card, wire transfer, shares and stocks.

Involvement

Connected by a strong enthusiasm for contemporary art, American Patrons are given a special range of privileges and are offered close involvement in both the United Kingdom and United States including:

  • Exclusive American events program, including curator-led tours of Tate exhibitions that travel to the US, visits to artists' studios and private collections

  • Full access to Patrons events program in the UK

  • Free entry for two to all exhibitions at Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives and access to stylish Members Rooms

  • Regular mailings of Tate ETC. and updates on Tate's exhibition and education programs
