Big and Small family event at Tate Britain

Big and Small is Tate Britain’s Early Years programme, running workshops and activities for local families with children under 5. The programme is generously funded by the Big Lottery Fund, enabling Tate to continue expanding a programme of activities and resources.

As part of Big and Small, Tate runs projects, family days and outreach ‘taster’ visits in the local area. All activities are free to attend and many of the families who take part have never been to Tate before.

All our activities use the gallery collection as a source of inspiration and involve a range of activities including play, movement, making, looking, sound and music. There is an emphasis on developing areas of language, interaction, imagination and creativity, with a strong focus on learning through play in an informal setting.

We work closely with Children’s Centres and Early Years providers in Westminster and Lambeth to ensure that families in both boroughs can engage in a range of creative, intergenerational learning activities.
