Tate St Ives temporary closure:  27 January – 16 May 2014

Steps and entrance to Tate St Ives

From Autumn 2013, Tate St Ives begins a major three year expansion programme – Tate St Ives Phase 2 – which will see the gallery space double, new learning spaces and improved visitor facilities.  Phase 2 is scheduled for completion in 2016.  However, due to initial building works, Tate St Ives will close from 27 January to16 May 2014.  The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden remains open during this time, and will also open on Mondays throughout the closure period.

The temporary closure is necessary to enable:

  • Structural changes to the existing building to enable, at a later date, the creation of a new studio space and accommodate the building of a new terrace room above the courtyard
  • Creation of a new reception area in the Heron Mall and a new cloakroom facility in the existing reception area
  • A new resource room

A temporary Visitor Centre is open daily in Meadow Flats (next door to Tate St Ives) where you can view Phase 2 plans, visit our pop-up shop or find out about our events programme.

Changing displays

Tate St Ives does not hold a permanent collection of work in the gallery but presents special exhibitions which change three times a year.

The gallery spaces close three times a year to change the displays. The Shop, Café and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden normally remain open during these periods.

Peak season

During the summer months, admission to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden may be restricted to prevent overcrowding.

Artworks on display

We regularly update details of the current displays at Tate St Ives but last-minute changes do occur. If you are planning a visit to see a particular work of art, please contact us to check if it will be on display.
