The different activities really made the children understand that art is not just drawing a picture.

Tate schools workshops are devised and framed by artists with established practices, who value the opportunity to test out their thinking in relation to the artworks on display, in dialogue with young people.

Each workshop will take place in the gallery and will involve encountering artworks, looking, questioning and formulating responses. Artists bring a particular approach to looking at art and the content of each workshop will vary according to the artist’s particular approach and ideas.

In 2012–13 the workshops are led by:
Caroline Achaintre, Larry Achiampong, Judith Brocklehurst, Chloe Cooper, Shaun Doyle, Sam Keogh, Jenny Moore, Katie Schwab, Adam Walker and Francis Wasser.

Encompassing a diverse range of practices including, installation, performance, painting, collage, film, drawing, animation, text, sound, site-specific art and photography, each artist operates from the distinct perspective of their own art practice.

Term-time Mondays and Thursdays, 10.30–12.00 or 13.00–14.30, starting 21 January 2013.

Two workshops in each time slot per day (strict maximum of 16 students per group).

Each school can book up to two workshops per term.
