Tino Sehgal is known for his works that question the role of the museum and audience in relation to market forces. His work establishes temporary situations, at turns disorientating and enchanting, but always engaging. Previous works have involved dancing museum guards, couples locked in a kiss, or even performers writhing on the floor of an empty gallery.
For The Fifth Floor Sehgal will present a work entitled This is Exchange. On entering the gallery each visitor will be greeted by a person dressed as a Tate Liverpool Information Assistant and offered a small payment on the condition that they engage in a discussion on the economy. The work considers the meaning of exchange and the value of cultural knowledge, whilst also commenting on the economy and its relation to regeneration.
