For centuries the allure of the sea has been a potent source of inspiration for writers and artists alike. From myths and legends, to folklore and popular culture the influence of the sea as a creative force today is everywhere to see. Mermaids, sailors tattoos, ships in bottles, sea shanties, and Punch and Judy; this course will take a whimsical look at the imagery of the British seaside experience focussing on contemporary art and illustration references. This course, led by artist educator Colette Whittington, will combine stylised drawing techniques, hand drawn typography and image making processes, with relief printmaking and stamping. Working towards making a body of mixed media, nautically inspired work for an ' Ahoy Sea-lovers' exhibition at the end of the course.
Programmed in association with the Workers’ Educational Association.
