Involving practical and discussion based activities in response to Tate’s collection the session explores the use of language and text in art. It is designed to support and extend your classroom practice, opening up a shared discussion around how art can generate debate and promote critical thinking.
Artist Emma Hart will run three sessions looking at how language shapes our encounter with art.
The sessions can be attended as a series or as independent workshops.
Reading: overcoming description, information and meanings
How to not read an artwork; does the drive to work out what an artwork means limit our own thinking? What if there is no information about the artwork? Let’s not be detectives, let’s imagine. Who owns the meaning of the artwork – the artist or the viewer, or the moment?
