Wolfgang Tillmans has been making music with regular collaborators Kyle Combs, Juan Pablo Echeverri, Tim Knapp, Jay Pluck and Tom Roach since 2015, who also form part of his music project ‘Fragile’. To begin Tillmans’s installation in the Tanks, they will create an open-form music installation that is part rehearsal, part performance.
Tim Knapp (b.1987, Berlin) is a musician from Berlin, who grew up at Kreuzberg’s TRIXX Studios. As a former punk drummer he soon discovered the field of electronic dance music. Together with former Terranova-Member DJ Kaos, he produced tracks for the likes of DFA, Modular Records, Hafendisko and Bryan Ferry.
Tim Knapp has been working with Wolfgang Tillmans since the start of the artist’s recent musical expedition. Together and in collaboration with Kyle Combs, they composed the track ‘Device Control’ which appeared on Frank Ocean’s visual album Endless. At the south Tank performance, Knapp will be playing electronic beats and sounds, some of which are derived from field recordings Tillmans made in the last years.
Jay Pluck is a musician and visual artist in New York City. His leads art pop band George Sand and also accompanies psych folk legend Ed Askew on keys. He produced the 2016 reissue of Ed Askew’s 1968 debut album Ask the Unicorn. Both groups will release new albums and tour in Europe in 2017. He is also in the most recent line-up of Wolfgang Tillman’s music project ‘Fragile’, Berlin trio Ebsen Knapp Pluck, and performs solo piano.
