A presentation of a two year Schools and Teachers research and development project at Tate Modern, constituted by artists’ projects, a programme of ‘conversations’ and a series of journals.

In 2010 ten artists were invited to consider an intersection between their practice and the Schools and Teachers programme. This period of research resulted in a series of distinct projects that saw artists test out their thinking in dialogue with the schools and teachers audience, through collaborative projects with teachers and students, and staged interventions and performances in the gallery and Clore learning spaces. The process was further explored with a programme of shared conversations and a series of journals designed to interrogate the connections and tensions that surfaced in and around the projects.

Throughout the process the Schools and Teachers team have sought to articulate why we work with artists but increasingly the interesting question has become why they might work with us and what this means in relation to our audience and the work that they encounter together.

In Site of Conversation is both a presentation of this two year project and a creative place from which to open up the conversations to a wider audience for their comment and contribution.

The exhibition will be further animated by a programme of live actions, including workshops, performances, meetings and a symposium.
