Join artist Simone Leigh for a series of discussions, performances and workshops inspired by traditions of knowledge sharing and exchange across generations

Be part of conversations on ageing, feminism, disobedience, desire, medicine and healing focusing on the transatlantic Black Diaspora.

Take part in a practical workshop making traditional doilies, experience an exciting collision of dance and activism led by Rashida Bumbray, join an extraordinary performance on ageing from artist Lorraine O’Grady, and participate in a collective listening session focusing on visions of black liberation. There’s also the chance to see Simone Leigh’s three-channel video work Aluminum, which features Rashida Bumbray, installed in Tate Exchange throughout the week.

Psychic Friends Network is a continuation of Leigh’s socially engaged work, The Free People’s Medical Clinic, 2014, commissioned by Creative Time, which provided free treatments and workshops over the course of four weekends in the former home of Dr. Josephine English, the first Black obstetrics and gynecology doctor in the State of New York; and The Waiting Room, 2016, at the New Museum, which referenced a wide range of care environments and opportunities – from herbalist apothecaries and muthi [medicine] markets in Durban, South Africa, to meditation rooms and movement studios – to create a variety of public workshops and healing treatments.

Psychic Friends Network is curated by Sonya Dyer, Curator Public Programmes and Emily Stone, Assistant Curator, Public Programmes.
