Test Tone for Landscape 2005 consists of five tones, each of which play for varying durations from five speakers positioned around the Loggia. The work exists as a kind of kit to be transposed to various places or situations in order, the artist suggests, to ‘harmonise’ a space. The tones are made up of domestic sounds recorded around the artist’s house. As in much of Chodzko’s work a usevalue or purpose is implied, but it remains unclear quite how we might interpret, apply, or even recognise the results of this strange acoustic test.
