R.H. Quaytman, born 1961, USA
A selection of silkscreen paintings by American contemporary painter R.H. Quaytman are displayed in the elegant curved Upper Gallery 2.
Quaytmans work blurs boundaries between text and image, incorporating optical abstractions, silkscreened photographs, diamond dust and hand-painted trompe loeil elements. The artist paints directly onto plywood panels, which are silkscreened with images gathered from all kinds of archives: art historical, institutional, personal and scientific.
While each painting may stand alone, the presentation of them in series, which are described as chapters, allows different formal and narrative relationships to slowly become evident.
